Chinen Rina
|
Rina Chinen's music is your basic mainstream dance/pop fare. I think the first song
I heard by her was "Pinch. Love Me Deeper", and while it had a bit of a catch beat,
it never really interested me much.
Rina is a regular host on the Japanese TV show "Yoru Mo Hippare". After hearing her
perform a Two-Mix song (almost better than the original), I started listening to her.
Personally, I think her newer songs are much better than her older stuff. She does
have a VERY high-pithced voice though, and that might grate on some peoples nerves.
But, if you want some basic pop music, Rina is good for that.

D&D
|
D&D was originally made up of 3 members (Olivia, Aya, & Chika). Their style was
usually fast paced dance/eurobeat and pop/dance music. Olivia was the lead singer
with Aya & Chika mainly providing backup. As a 3 member group, D&D only
released one album, but that album, IMHO, is very good and worth checking out if you
like that kind of pop/dance music.
After Olivia left the group to pursue a solo career, Aya & Chika continued D&D,
releasing several singles after that.

Da Pump
|
Think of the perfect example of a Japanese "boy band" and Da Pump would be it. Good
looking guys, good singers, and great dancers, their high-energy performances are
definitely a fun thing to watch. A mix of pop, dance, hip-hop, and a little rap,
Just watch one of thier performances and take a look at who's in the crowd, and you'll
have no problem identifying their target audience. ^_^

Dragon Ash
|
Dragon Ash is probably one of (if not THE) most popular example of Japanese rap
in Japan right now. Their first few singles were very successful and launched
their popularity. The songs range from a more mellow sounding rap (such as "Let
Yourself Go, Let Myself Go"), to the more hardcore style evidenced in "Deep Impact".
Dragon Ash, especially in their first album "Viva La Revolution" remind me a lot of
the Beastie Boys (Check Your Head) in their selection of back beats and rhythms. Also,
they have a few songs that are heavy rock/metal sounding as well.

Dreams Come True
|
Although I don't really listen to DCT that much, they are a very popular group
in Japan. They have been around for many, many years and have even released a
domestic, all-English album here in the US as well. Their music is a basic
pop sound with a tiny hint of R&B.
My favorite song of their's is by far "Love Love Love", which was the theme song
to, not surprisingly, one of my favorite doramas "Aishitteiru Itte Kure" (Say You
Love Me)
