Die Sterntaler, also known as Hoshi no Kinka (Heaven's Coins), is a popular Japanese TV series that was aired in
1995. It stars the famous Japanese singer Noriko Sakai and model-turned actors Takao Osawa and Yutaka
Takenouchi. According to Junon's 1995 best voted TV series, Die Sterntaler came in third place. Takao Ohsawa and
Yutaka Takenouchi also received ninth and sixth place respectively in the Japan TV series best actors list. Stories
related to disability had became very popular over the recent years in Japan. They provoked sympathy from the
audience and has a rather touching story line. Die Sterntaler is an example of this type of story. It was first aired in
Japan on April 5, 1995. The story speaks of Noriko starring a hearing impaired woman that works in a hospital.
Eventually, the plot thickens into several love triangles and a harsh play of fate upon all the characters. For this
series, all actors and actresses were required to learn sign language since the main character could only communicate
with the usage of signs. Die Sterntaler was written by Junya Yamasaki and directed by Hiroshi Yoshino and Aryouichi
Itsukida.
