Kamakura is a neat out-of-the-way feeling kind of town. It's definitely worth making the effort of
going on a day trip if you're in Tokyo. Although all the temples weren't as cool as the ones in
Kyoto, there were a couple of pretty neat ones. We went to Kita-Kamakura station and basically
started walking from that point. The first temple we came across was Engakuji temple. That
was pretty. Next we walked to Kenchoji then to Hachimangu srhine, En'noji temple (ten kings of
hades) and finally Myohonji temple.
After that, we jumped on the train from Kamakura station and went a couple stops closer to the
temple with the large daibatsu. We stopped at Hasedera temple and then finally the Kamakura Daibatsu
(giant Buddha). The trip to kamakura was nice and relaxing. I think my favorite temple while we
were there was either Hasedera or En'noji with all the judges of hell. Those were kind of freaky
looking statues. (Apparently they're kind of a Buddhist version of Dante's Inferno). After returning
from Kamakura, we were able to meet up with my friend Wayne. Wayne used to live in Austin and I used
to trade tapes with him a lot. Apparently he got a job working as a programmer in Tokyo. It was
definitely interesting being able to catch up with him. Tomorrow, unfortunately, is our last full
day in Japan. *sniff* *sniff*
