Grace is the measure of how much favor an individual character has with his or her deity at any given moment. A priest may use this favor to lend strength to his or her prayers, and draw power from his or her deity to bring these prayers to reality. Grace may also be used to activate certain divinely granted powers or abilities.
A priest has pool of Grace to draw upon for his or her prayers or other divinely granted powers and abilities. Initially, this pool is equal to the character's Skill Level in Faith, as modified by his or her Intuition. Each time the priest gains a rank as a priest, he or she may increase his or her Grace pool by his or her current Skill Level in Faith modified by his or her Intuition.
In addition to using Grace to invoke prayers or special abilities, a priest may lose grace by committing sins or actions that do not support the creed of his or her Faith. Such actions will reduce his or her Grace by only a one or two points for a minor offense. A significant deviation or violation may result in the loss of as many as 5 points of Grace. A Venial or Mortal Sin, by the standards of the Faith, will result in not only a lost of 10 or more points of Grace, but will also impose a penalty to a priest's Faith until absolved of the sin.
Grace may be recovered in a variety of ways. Prayer and meditation may restore Grace. For every hour spent meditating and praying, a Priest may make a Faith check to recover Grace. The Difficulty of the check and the amount recovered are shown on the following chart.
Location | Difficulty | Rate |
---|---|---|
Temple | 6 | 4d4 |
Shrine | 8 | 2d4 |
Road | 10 | 1d4 |
Sacred times may add either a bonus to the recovery rater, usually a bonus of +1d4, or a reduction in difficulty. Very important holy occasions may add both.
