Renaissance Faire Clothes

I basically just felt like adding a pic of my Ren faire outfits. I built these outfits a piece at a time really, a shirt here, a skirt there, shoes over there, etc. I usually hit two faires a year (Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie and Texas Renaissance Faire in Houston), sometimes three (Hawkwood Fantasy Faire in BFE) depending on my free time. )

My current outfit
Consists of a suede fitted bodice (bodice implys fitted doesn't it?) of black and purple stripes. This is worn over a black cotton peasant-style shirt that i wear off the shoulder (except at TRF cause it's always so fuckin cold). I then have a purple muslin-type skirt which i wear a black cotton "overskirt" over (obviously). Then i usually wear a pair of knee-high white socks (or white tights at TRF, again, cause of the weather); which go into a pair of purple velvet slippers which i have modified from a buckle operation to two long strings to wrap around the ankle and tie together. I usually wear part of my hair up and in a rather large clip with purple and black feathers and cords hanging decoratively from it. In the picture, you can see my dragon, Lasher (named for Anne Rice's awesome ghost) sitting on my shoulder. He too is purple and black with purple iridescent wings. I also wear a Peruvian necklace i picked up at the Texas state fair, it's rather pretty and i enjoy hearing people comment upon it. i also have a neat little ear cuff made of silver and purple beads which is made to look like i have a whole string of ear piercings in that particular ear. It's a neat effect. I also sometimes wear a chain-mail slave bracelet which has purple beads in the chains. I say sometimes because it tends to break alot and also tends to turn my wrist green after wearing it for a whole day at a faire. Also, usually seen hanging from my belt are a rather cool black and purple feather fan (perfect for the hot Texas summers), a fabric coin purse, and a pewter drinking goblet. I am currently on the look out for a cloak to wear when it's cold or rains (which it also happens to do alot at TRF), that's in purple (obviously) with a neat little hood and won't cost an arm and a leg. That's basically my outfit. ^_^

My old outfit
This was the first full outfit i bought ($110!!). This is where i got the black peasant shirt and black overskirt for the other outfit from. This outfit also consisted of a purple bodice (different style than the other one) over the peasant shirt, with a matching purple skirt under the black overskirt. I usually wore just a pair of sandles with this outfit as it's more a peasant girl's outfit, then my other outfit which is more a upper-class lady's outfit. That's the same Peruvian necklace from the new outfit, you can just see it better here, as well as the chain-mail bracelet. This picture was taken minutes after buying the outfit at our very first ren faire (TRF), it was soooo new still that i had missed some of the tags on the clothes and was picking them off after the picture was taken.

Sidenote
While at these faires you get to see a lot of people selling a lot of different things...and the coolest two stores i've come across (besides Pendragon - where i got my bodice) are two art booths. give me the honor of refering you to:

Ruth Thompson's Tarnished Images

Nene Thomas Illustrations

i've bought many pieces of art from both of these people and i find them all wonderful. go check them out!
